By jabel@mannixmarketing.com
Google+ is growing fast, with over 170 Million users and an 82% increase in U.S. visits since last November. When people land on your Google+ company page the first thing they see is your Cover Photo. As one of the key components of an optimized Google+ page, we’ve compiled a list of 10 companies whose cover photos are creating a powerful first impression!
1. Cadbury UK
Cadbury UK does a great job engaging visitors with this cover photo. From the bright colors to the silhouettes of people celebrating, this brand knows what a sweet, joyous moment looks like! And what is this celebration for? The 2012 Summer Olympics, of course!
Also, check out the tagline on their Featured Photo to the right. “Official treat provider of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.” A great job highlighting their timely sponsorship of a worldwide event.
2. HTC
HTC makes great use of the multi-image cover photo area on their Google+ company page. The first two images from the left highlight the product benefits of their HTC One device, while the third image actually shows people what the product looks like. The fourth image presents the brand name, while the final image is used to indicate the product model/type.
3. TOMS
TOMS is the shoe brand that is renowned for their contribution to the less fortunate. Quite simply, whenever someone purchases a pair of TOMS shoes, TOMS will donate a new pair of shoes to a person in need of some new kicks.
So how do they share this message? TOMS used their Cover Photo to highlight the people in need of shoes from around the globe. Showing the end-user can have a tremendous impact on our purchasing behavior, especially for non-profit and community-oriented organizations.
In addition, TOMS makes the most of their Featured Photo by incorporating the “One for One” mantra.
4. ABC News
ABC News has a powerful lineup of television shows that define it’s reputation for delivering the most pressing issues from around the globe. With such an extensive lineup, each one of their most prominent news shows are featured in the multi-image Cover Photos area. Aside from the engaging graphics and creative use of the images, Intel’s powerful call-t0-action is meant to build their Following on Google+ so they can interact with a larger online audience!
6. Purdue University
What comes to mind when applying to college? Campus, athletics, scenery, professors, commencement (eventually)? Knowing what really matters to both current and potential undergraduates, Purdue University prominently highlights each of these features in their multi-image Cover Photo area.
There is still huge potential for colleges to get active on Google+, especially when targeting potential applicants. With Hangouts that allow students to interact with professors, and Videos to showcase the liveliness of what’s happening on campus, the opportunities are endless!
7. Marvel
Marvel makes phenomenal use of its Google+ Cover Photo to highlight the wide range of characters in its popular comic book series. While the photo itself is visually captivating, the incorporation of numerous characters allows Marvel appeal to multiple fans.
8. MAKE
MAKE has perhaps the most imaginative and strategic Google+ Cover Photo I’ve ever seen. The company uses strong calls-to-action to entice visitors to take meaningful action once they’ve landed on MAKE’s Google+ company page.
9. Volkswagon USA
When it comes to summer, long road trips and relaxing picnics are just a few things that come to mind. For Volkswagon, many people think Woodstock and letting loose. Naturally, Volkswagon USA highlights this imagery with a creative yet strangely familiar Cover Photo of people in a field, kicking back and living life worry-free.
Let’s not forget the powerful Featured Photo to the right, which strategically incorporates their well-known slogan (“Das Auto”). Das Powerful!
