The Internet is a wonderful place where people can engage and interact and find information like never before. You can take word-of-mouth advice from strangers you have never even seen about all sorts of products and services before you buy or decide on a brand.

But the Internet can seem like a truly awful place when someone has written a negative review about your business. It’s there in black and white for everyone in the world to read and consider — and it rarely goes away.

You may not think it’s fair for ONE customer having a bad experience (or sometimes even just a bad day) to ruin your chances at gaining more potential consumers, but unfortunately that’s their right. Fortunately, however, it’s YOUR right to counteract the damage they have done.

We can sometimes take for granted the they offer free stats (Analytics), free business listings in their directory (Places) and free product listings in their shopping center (Product Search) that help us with out site and expose our businesses to millions of potential customers. And we can sometimes balk at them (or anyone) asking us to pay for something. But there are some tools that Google charges for that can be worth it. One in particular that we find most customers do not understand that well is Google Site Search.

Stay Consistent With Basic Website Elements

As an SEO consultant for the last eleven years, I consistently let my clients know that our goals are a joint effort between getting traffic and converting traffic. Often you’ll hear me saying that a website is useless if nobody can find it. That statement basically confirms the need for search engine optimization because your positions and your online marketing efforts are what will put your website in front of the searchers. On a daily basis we get calls from businesses looking for help with their Internet marketing, and without fail at some point in the conversation they say, “I want to be found on Google.” It seems that Google has been a part of everyday life for so long now that many people feel that if they don’t get found on Google, their business won’t succeed.
